Community Hopes and Dreams for the Lake City Floodplain Park
We are so grateful to community members who shared their neighborhood needs and hopes and dreams for the future Lake City Floodplain Park! Here’s what we heard.
We heard a lot about the importance of nature -- people used words like natural, habitat, water, restoration, trees, wildlife, and plants -- and about community needs for safety -- people used words like safety, community, and walk.
We were excited to discover that there is a high amount of alignment between the community's hopes for the new green space and what the City of Seattle's goals for the site are. We heard concerned about the health of Thornton Creek and a desire to have a park that fits the natural landscape of the property.
Possible park amenities were selected from among top generated community ideas. Each park amenity is represented by a National Park Service symbol.
The park ideas were used in the next round of community engagement. More on that in the next post!
